Today all the delegates went on an excursion. We had the choice of three destinations – Bath, Cotswolds’ and Cambridge. I chose Cambridge because I haven’t been there before and wanted to learn more about the Oxford-Cambridge rivalry.

It was another early start as we were due to depart from Oriel College at 8:15am. The bus ride took around two hours, but it was a great opportunity for us to catch up on sleep, especially after last night’s adventures.

When we arrived, we had a few minutes to grab some coffee (to wake ourselves up!) before we started a walking tour of the city. In some ways, Cambridge is very similar to Oxford in that there are many grand colleges and beautiful chapels. However, I noticed there were far more tourists in Cambridge today. This may be perhaps because today was a Saturday and people are venturing out for the weekend.

The weather was beautiful for our tour. We saw people punting, all the famous and grand colleges and the beautiful parks. It was particularly interesting to hear about all the notable scholars who have attended Cambridge University, such as Sir Isaac Newton and Stephen Hawking (who was actually in Cambridge today). The double-stranded helix structure of DNA was discovered at Cambridge too! I feel I became slightly more intelligent just by being in Cambridge today!

We had the afternoon to ourselves for lunch, some shopping and relaxing in the sun. We made the journey back to Oxford at around 5pm. I’m absolutely exhausted from my lack of sleep last night and the adventurous day today. Hopefully I get some time to unwind tomorrow.
