Today was the first day of my second and last week here in Oxford and I began with  a International taxation law in the morning.

It  is taking part in St Anne’s seminar room 10 so I feel lucky to have classes at the same place as my accomodation. This is convenient.

International taxation law is a subject I had already studied at University this year. However, as we were focusing on the French legislation, we only saw the international part quickly. The teacher started by warning us since the beginning that it would not be about maths but about principles and basic rules of international taxation law.

The first class went well and I managed to follow easily because it was an introduction to the subject. I found it very good because most of people in the class don’t know much about it. It allowed all delegates that had never studied the subject before to understand it and to remember it for those who already knew about it.

After the end of the class, a friend and I joined the city center to eat a the traditional and famous english meal : Fish and Chips in a restaurant called The Mitre . It was recommanded to us by an english seller working nearby. I did not regret following this advice as the meal was good and healthy and I enjoyed the atmosphere of the place.

We then hurried to get back to Somerville College in order to go to the Oxford Castle visit. I thought it would be very far from the city center but it happened to be very close. I  had just never noticed it. The castle was quite spectacular and the first thing we noted was the big high mountain at the entrance.

A woman who called herself Black Beth and was dressed like a pirate welcomed us for the tour with a big smile on her face. She was very funny and told us about the long history  of the castle and the famous prisoners it hosted. The stairs to get to the tower were not meant to be climbed by claustrophobic persons as it was very narrow and dark. But the view on top of the castle was absolutely worth it.

A really nice part of the tour was getting photographed by our guide for a mugshot. At the end of the visit we were able to see what crime we “comitted” to be imprisoned and how long we would have stayed in Oxford castle. My friend’s and I picture stated that it was for stealing cheese and we got 7 years of transportation. Quite unfair don’t you think ?

The evening went really good. Some friends and I went to a famous pub in Oxford called the Turf Tavern. There were a lot of students there and we had a great fun.
